1.    Can you share some of your experience working with university previously and probably some of the success stories from your experience?

Mr. Mirza: It is important for industry to always work closely with university, there are many experiences from my company such as working with UMT where the company can improvise the product they innovate by engaging with university researchers to solve various problem that we faced. This industry-university ecosystem is a win-win situation.

2.    I think one of the problems is the working culture differences that sometimes become obstacles for both parties to work together. How should we avoid this and improve?

Dr. Hii: With university background, I have to say that both entities have different culture, however from my experience, we can actually try to understand differences and work with mutual understanding by appreciating the different styles of work between us.

3.    What does industry need from university and what can industry offer to university?

Prof Adi: The industry can support 2 major things; 1. Provide research platform that is related to solutions to various industry needs that university can help through research they good at and 2. Industry can provide training ground for student and also give them experience in the real working environment.

General comments/suggestions

  • Suggest all MARE courses should be open access or a common password be provided for all partner institutions so that students and staff could access the learning materials. In relation to that, all teaching and learning materials should be prepared in English or with translation so that it could be understood by the wider public.

  • Continuous quality control should be emphasized so that staff quality, students’ progress, syllabus quality, and statistical record evaluation could be improved from time to time.

  • Vietnam partner institutions are in the process of producing an eBook, Malaysia and European Partners are invited to edit the finished contents.    THe meeting agree that Dr. Sharmila from UTM will lead the ebook effort. Further discussion will be organize soon to discuss the content of the book.

Presentation on establishment of sectoral collaborative platforms in each PC. Report on the current status  was presented by Dr. Siti Nur Fathiyah Jamaludin, UTP.    UTP has invited Dr. Nor Bakhiah Binti Baharim, Technical Chairman of The Coastal and Marine Geology Technical Committee from Institute of Geology Malaysia (IGM) to share their role and functions for MARE partners to explore potential future collaboration.
