1. Tropical Oceanography
Abstract
Tropical Oceanography is an elective new course with 3 credits (5 ECTS) offered to Master of Science students (by Research). This course is developed by Prof. Dr. Mohd Fadzil Mohd Akhir, Institute of Oceanography and Environment, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Malaysia and approved by UMT’s senate on 24th February 2021. This course focuses on ocean physico-chemical and bio-geochemical processes as well as the interactions between the atmosphere and ocean and how this coupled process drive the ocean productivity in the tropical regions. This course explores the current impact that affecting our oceanographic system that includes atmosphere–ocean climate system, ocean pollution and geomorphology changes. The course concludes with the role of the climate change and the connection between human activity and the current warming trend. Teaching method includes online-teaching, video lecture, tutorial, and talk by walking professional, discussion.

Student’s learning method includes case study, team/ individual research assignment and written report.

2. ENVIRONMENT – ISSUE AND GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
This course is an elective subject with 3 credits (4 ECTS) It is offered specifically to the Bachelor of Science (Marine Science) students and was developed by the Faculty of Science & Marine Environment, UMT. In this course, the students will be introduced to environmental science knowledge and they will develop the ability to understand recent global environmental issues. The students will be able to devise ethical and politically viable plans and strategies to address these issues while balancing the interests of society, economy and environment. The students will propose appropriate methods or strategies to solve environmental problems via written reports and presentations. Throughout the course, online teaching, video lectures, group discussion and industrial talk in the classroom are incorporated as the teaching methods.
The students are continuously assessed via written report, videos/poster presentation and the final examination.

3. MARINE RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
Abstract
This course is an elective subject with 3 credits (4 ECTS) It is offered specifically to the Bachelor of Science (Marine Science) students and was developed by the Faculty of Science & Marine Environment, UMT. The students will be introduced to the concepts of marine resources and management of marine environments, interactions between the flora and fauna ecosystems which include fisheries resources, coral reefs communities and mangrove forests. Furthermore, the course will highlight marine resources policy and it’s implication towards the environment and society. At the end of this course, the students will be able to understand the concept of marine pollution, fisheries resources management, food security and safety, marine conservation, marine protected areas, coastal zone management and strategies for sustainable development. Online teaching, video lectures, group discussion and industrial talk in the classroom are included as the teaching methods.
The students are assessed via written report, videos/poster presentation and the final examination.
